APPROACH

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

EMDR is an evidenced-based model of psychotherapy where a person is asked to recall distressing memories that cause disturbance in the present where the person may be aware of the trigger or not. This memory is processed through some form of bi-lateral stimulation, such as rapid eye movements back and forth, bringing a resolution to the distressing memory. It also addresses current triggers that people cause disturbance, as well as prepares the individual for any possible future challenges. This model was initially used to address PTSD but is now used to address many other mental health conditions and more.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

CBT is an evidence-based model of psychotherapy that addresses problematic thinking and behaviors that contribute to and maintain many mental health conditions. It is an active model of therapy requiring the individual to learn and practice skills to change their thinking and behaviors in order to improve their mental health. Typically CBT focuses on the present, rather than the past, although at times the past may be explored.

Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT)

ACT is an evidenced-based model of psychotherapy that uses acceptance, commitment, mindfulness, and behavioral change strategies to increase psychological flexibility. The goal is behavioral change, rather than symptom reduction, but can result in symptom reduction as a byproduct.

Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT)

SFT is a short-term goal-focused evidence-based model of therapy where the emphasis is on developing solutions rather than focusing on problems. It seeks to avoid “problem talk”, which typically provides little outside of momentary relief.
